Femtocell Field Trial Services
Through our comprehensive Field Trial service, Epitiro's highly-experienced testing teams travel the globe using proven methodologies and best practices to test, measure and document the functionality and performance of Femtocell APs in real-world environments across many different Broadband network infrastructures.
Epitiro can offer this service at any stage of the product cycle from alpha through to final Operator-level acceptance. Our ISP-I probes will take your device through a rigorous, automated examination not only analyzing AP-based Voice & Data quality, but also connectivity, functionality and a throrough analysis of the underlying Broadband networks involved.
Understanding 'Last mile' issues : The link between the AP and the core cellular network should be tolerant to packet loss, jitter and network delay. In scenarios where your femtocell service is relying on an un-managed third-party party broadband network this may not be possible and the effects of any ISP network issues need to be closely monitored, managed and communicated to customers ASAP.
In the Field Trial stage of a Femtocell network roll-out, Epitiro provides the following services:
- Network Integration
- Reporting across multiple Broadband Providers networks
- End-to-End VQ Reporting from the Edge to the Core Network
- Defining Test strategy, Site planning, Definition & executiion of Call test scenarios
- Test deployment & automation
- DSL Network benchmarking
Our In-country Field Trial testing of your APs against diverse broadband networks and service plans will allow you to bring your Service offering to market in a timely manner while ensuring consumer confidence and fending off the possibility of costly product recalls or In-life service quality issues.
Fully-managed remote service scheduling and testing
These are the the key-phases involved in any Managed Test Services Project:
- Internet Service Provider (ISP) & Service Plan Definition
- Location Definition
- Hardware Configuration & physical roll-out of Handsets & Femto APs
- Test strategy & Call Scenario Definition
- Test script creation and remote deployment to Probes
- Test Initiation
- Report analysis
Internet Service Provider (ISP) & Service Plan Definition
This involved defining and creating a list of ISPs and Service plans that need to be used as backhaul for Femtocell call scenarios within the region under test
Location Definition
Once a client has agreed to proceed with a Field Trial project this phase involves identifying appropriate points in the network in which to position the probes. This is typically "beyond the DSLAM or MSAN" at the exchange or Customer Premises or in a central Lab within a Telco's environment.
Hardware Configuration & physical roll-out
Once appropriate sites have been identified Epitiro-supplied probes and supporting hardware (Remote Power, KVMoIP, etc..)need to be physically deployed at the identified locations. This will typically involve a call to a member of our Operations & Service Configuration Center to validate two-way IP communications between the Probes and our Operations center.
Once the probes are validated with the operations center, network technicians can proceed to define the Call Scenario test requirements. This can include many separate test types and varying call traffic schedules.
Test script creation and remote deployment to Probes
Once IP tests, metrics and schedules have been agreed it's the role of our operations team to build the schedules to your exacting needs. Tests can range from a single test on a 15-minute cycle to a host of tests include VoIP, Video, Peer-to-Peer and IP Data on a 24x7x365 rotational cycle. Once the schedules have been created they are remotely transferred to the individual probes in the network as appropriate.
Fig 1. Remote Test Creation, Schedule definition and deployment within the ISP-I Management Software Interface
Test Initiation
Once the test schedules have been remotely deployed the tests can be started on-demand either with a call to Operations or using automated procedures agreed with the client.
Report analysis
Once the test schedules are underway the resulting information is available immediately, in real-time, anywhere in the world using our ISP-I reporting interface.
