Epitiro & Thinkbroadband.com announce joint project to help users track download usage and measure broadband performance
Thinkbroadband.com, the UK’s largest independent broadband information site and Epitiro, the global leader in comparative broadband intelligence are announcing a joint project to produce the largest ever broadband performance survey.
Thinkbroadband.com has launched a free tool available on its website which allows users to track the performance of their broadband connections. The tool will allow users to avoid incurring excess bandwidth charges or risk having their broadband speeds restricted by helping users to monitor their usage and sounding appropriate alarms if they exceed specified limits. The tool will keep statistics for two months on each computer it is installed on, but users will also be able to log on to thinkbroadband.com in the near future to view historical statistics as well as compare their performance against other users in their area or those using the same service provider.
The tbbMeter tool will incorporate technology from Epitiro, an established broadband performance metrics company, which will help to produce the largest ever broadband speed survey, measuring not just simple download performance but also peer-to-peer (p2p) and VoIP performance for example. The goal of the project is to collect samples from 100,000 users to map out Broadband Britain and identify broadband black spots.
Sebastien Lahtinen, founder of thinkbroadband.com explains, “We are launching tbbMeter in association with Epitiro to produce the best statistics on broadband performance so that consumers can make informed decisions on which package and supplier to use.
Whilst there are many ways to measure download and speed performance, tbbMeter does much more. It will measure the bandwidth usage each and every second to generate comparative statistics that will benefit both the consumer and the provider.”
The data revealed inconsistency amongst multinational ISPs service levels with Orange (41% difference), Alice (44%) and Tele2(31%) brands varying significantly in service quality from city to city.
“Epitiro’s broadband test experience and technology combined with Thinkbroadband’s extensive consumer base makes for an ideal partnership that will benefit consumers, service providers and inform the debate on broadband marketing and performance.”
